My name is An Le, and I have been teaching science since 2011. Ever since I was young, I had a great curiosity and excitement for the natural world, and utilized this excitement through exploration. This enthusiasm for the sciences motivated my pursuit for a Bachelors of Science in Biology, research during my undergraduate studies, and a career in medicine. However, after a year of volunteer work and preparation, I realized that teaching would be my passion, as the invaluable experiences gained from tutoring and mentoring young middle school and high school students inspired me to earn a credential in Science.
As a student who used to struggle with writing and speaking English, improving student literacy is a considerable goal of mine, as I work to incorporate strategies supported by research. In achieving this goal, I feel that it is important to model both science and academic literacy as often as possible in the classroom, using technology, challenging materials, dynamic discussions and a variety of both formative and summative assessments.
In addition to teaching science, the role of Associated Student Body (ASB), or Leadership Advisor at Rancho Middle School was an incredible experience. With this position, I learned a great deal not just about managing school events, but about fostering an environment where student leaders can advocate for issues they believe in. I believe that cultivating an inclusive and understanding school community is vital to academic success, and seeing students execute activities committed to these values is very rewarding.
I feel truly fortunate to have found a career in education. Along with the varied experiences as a teacher working with students, the collaborative aspects of this profession help me strive to become better and more innovative. I am driven to serve my students with the best of my ability everyday.
